Traders at the New York Stock Exchange will only be giving and receiving gifts among family on Christmas Day Friday.
Christmas Day means the hustle and bustle of families coming together, the opening of presents, but also a city quieted by closures all around the town.
From courts to libraries to the DMV, all government offices will be closed. And with winter recess here, all city school facilities will be closed from Christmas Eve through after New Year’s Day.
Drivers will get to enjoy a break from alternate side parking rules. And don’t fret about feeding the meter — that’s also suspended for the holiday. Only parking regulations in effect seven days a week need to be observed.
Trash collection will also take a break on Christmas Day, so wait unitl late in the day to put out the garbage.
Meantime, subways will operate on a Sunday schedule, and buses on a holiday schedule. Staten Island Ferry boats will depart every half hour from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., until normal service resumes.
